Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
We’ve gathered answers to some of the most common questions from our industry partners. If you don’t see your question here, please reach out—we’re always happy to help.
Are you accredited?
The NMSU Food Safety Laboratory is actively working toward ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, with certification expected in the very near future. ISO 17025 is the international gold standard for testing and calibration laboratories. Achieving this accreditation demonstrates our commitment to:
- Using validated and scientifically sound testing methods.
- Operating under strict quality management procedures.
- Providing results that are reliable, defensible, and recognized worldwide.
We are proud to uphold these standards and will keep our partners updated as we move through the final stages of accreditation.
Do you offer volume discounts?
Yes, we offer discounted pricing for clients who need to submit a high volume of samples or who wish to set up a routine testing schedule. Please contact our Lab Director to discuss your needs and receive a customized quote.
Do you provide rush or expedited testing?
Yes, for certain assays, expedited testing may be available depending on sample type and laboratory workload. Additional fees may apply. Please contact us in advance to confirm availability.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept online payments via credit card or ACH through the secure NMSU eMarket portal. For routine clients or large projects, we can also discuss invoicing options.
What is the best way to ship samples?
For microbiological samples, it is critical they remain cold but not frozen during transit. We recommend using an insulated cooler with plenty of frozen gel packs. Please ship samples for overnight delivery to ensure they arrive at our facility within 24-36 hours of collection. Clearly mark packages as “Perishable – Keep Refrigerated”. Avoid shipping late in the week or before holidays to prevent weekend storage in transit.
How do I interpret my results?
Your final report will clearly state the analytical findings. However, we understand that data requires context. Please do not hesitate to call or email us after you receive your report. Our team is happy to walk you through the results and discuss what they mean for your specific product and process.
How will I receive my results?
Final reports are delivered electronically as a signed PDF via email. If you require hard copies, multiple recipients, or integration with your company’s data management system, please let us know when submitting your samples.
Do you provide training or consultation services?
Yes. In addition to laboratory testing, we provide workshops, HACCP training, and consultation services in food safety, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
